Tips on Selling A Home

1. Declutter.

Þ Less is more.  You will be moving out, so pack a few boxes.  If you haven’t used it in over a year, you probably won’t need it. Clutter will make your home look smaller, and give the buyer less room for their imagination.

Þ If you don’t use your bulky furniture, think about moving them out.

Þ Clean off your refrigerator.  Take off all the magnets.  This will make your kitchen look much cleaner.

Þ Organize your closets and kitchen cabinets.  An organized closet will also make it look larger.

2. Make minor repairs.

Þ Patch holes in walls and fix doors that do not properly open.

Þ Fix leaky faucets and replace cracked tiles.

Þ Consider painting walls to a neutral color, especially if you have “unconventional” wall colors.

Þ Replaced burned out light bulbs.

3. Make a good first impression.

Þ Keep the lawn manicured and trim the bushes.

Þ Clean the driveway, sidewalks, and steps.

Þ Store outdoor toys, tools, and equipment.

Þ Wash the exterior of your house, especially the windows and doors.

Þ Replace faded house numbers.

Þ Replace worn welcome mats with rough textured doormats.

4. Create a mood.

Þ Keep neat always! (You never know when someone will want to see it)

Þ Vacuum often

Þ Create a “mood”

Þ Light candles

Þ Bake cookies right before showing

Þ Play soft music

Þ Open your blinds during the day to make your home feel very airy and sunny.

Þ Try to leave your home when there is a showing scheduled.   Buyers will rush through the home if you’re present, when you should want them to really take their time to appreciate and remember your home.
